Training & Trial Training

Training process

15 min warm-up

For the trial, long sweatpants and a T-shirt are sufficient; training takes place barefoot. A shinai (bamboo sword) will be provided.
To get started you need:

Shinai (from CHF 40.-) & Bokken for Katas (from CHF 25.-)

After a few months: traditional clothing (Hakama & Keiko-Gi, from CHF 100.-)
-
After about one year: Armor (from CHF 350-400, lasts several years)
-
Children and young people can rent armor.
Cost
The trial training is free for the first month. After that, the training costs CHF 120 per semester (for trainees) or CHF 240 per semester.
Summer training
During the summer holidays (approximately July 1st – August 15th) we train in the gymnasium of the Bäumlihofgymnasium on the border with Riehen.

Equipment
Long training trousers and a T-shirt are sufficient to start with; training is done barefoot. A shinai (bamboo sword) is provided for trial training sessions.
To get started, you will need:
Shinai (from CHF 30) & bokken (from CHF 25)
After a few months: 5th kyu examination, followed by traditional clothing (hakama and keiko-gi, from CHF 100, available second-hand if necessary)
From 3rd kyu: training with armour and participation in competitions
Armour rental: CHF 60 per semester (purchase possible from approx. CHF 350)

The first 2–3 trial training sessions are free of charge (you can start at any time during the school semester). After that, training costs £60 per semester.
